Herbert Decaluwé of University Hospital Leuven in Belgium discusses complications during video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). He presents a 2015 review of VATS complications at six European centers, discussing elements that were found to be associated with intraoperative complications, and the types of injuries that were noted in the study. He also shows video of VATS complications and near-misses, focusing on the approaches one could take to avoid or recover from them.

This presentation was originally given during the SCTS Ionescu University program at the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland.
