Left Atrial Myxoma

Monday, September 14, 2015

A large left atrial myxoma arising from the posterior wall near the origin of the left pulmonary vein is very rare. Excision of the area of origin is a newer technique to prevent recurrence of the myxoma. This video describes the steps to remove a left atrial myxoma, and precautions to take during surgery.

Nice video about a large tumor and an uncommon location. However I am not quite sure, whether the sole and meticulous resection of the endocardium is sufficient to prevent recurrency in a primary mesenchymal tumor.
