Stage IA is reserved for classifying tumors 3 cm. or less in greatest dimension, with no evidence of invasion proximal to a lobar bronchus (Fig.5) and no evidence of metastasis, the T1 N0 M0 anatomic subset. The prognosis for these patients is significantly better than that for any other group.
