The Program Committee invites submission of abstracts for presentation at the 46th International
Conference of the American Society of ExtraCorporeal Technology at the Hilton Walt Disney World Resort,
April 9-12, 2008, Orlando, Florida.
AmSECT membership is not a prerequisite to participation in the program.
Investigators from outside the United States are welcome, provided the abstracts and
presentations are in English. Abstracts must be complete in all components to be considered
for presentation.
The deadline for receipt of abstracts is December 31, 2007.
Abstracts received after this date will not be accepted for inclusion in the 2008 program
unless prior authorization is obtained. Should you not
receive email confirmation of receipt within two (2) working days, please notify the
AmSECT National Office at donna@amsect.org.
AmSECT will notify corresponding authors of the disposition
(approval or non-approval) of their abstract(s) by February 1, 2008.
All accepted abstracts will be presented as posters, orally or as a combination of poster and oral.
Please note that this abstract submission form does not save partially complete abstracts.
Abstracts must be submitted, in their entirety, at time of entry.
Awards
AmSECT membership is a requirement for consideration of these awards:
- Outstanding Poster Award: This award (plaque and $500) recognizes the outstanding poster at the
conference.
- Outstanding Student Presentation Award: This award (plaque and $1,000) recognizes the
outstanding presentation by a student at the conference. You must submit an original scientific
manuscript to the Journal of ExtraCorporeal Technology to be considered for this award.
- Fellowship Award: This award (plaque and $1,000) recognizes the outstanding oral presentation
at the conference. You must be submitting an original scientific manuscript to the Journal of
ExtraCorporeal Technology to be considered for this award.
Deadline
- All abstracts must be received no later than December 31, 2007.
Format
- The title, placed at the top of the abstract, should be brief and clearly indicate the nature of
the investigation. The title should be typed in
upper case letters. Abbreviations should not be used in the title.
- Complete names of all authors and institutions, placed at the top of the abstract, should
be typed in Title Case, using upper and lower casing. Do not show degrees, departments, or city/state in
abstract. Author and institution ONLY.
- The abstract MUST include:
- A statement of purpose of the study
- A statement of methods used
- A summary of results presented in sufficient detail to support the conclusions
- A statement of the conclusions reached. It is not satisfactory to state, "The reasons will be discussed."
- References and credits cannot be included.
It is mandatory that authors who have their abstract accepted for Oral Presentation submit a
manuscript to the Journal of ExtraCorporeal Technology (JECT) prior to presentation. The deadline for
manuscript submission will be Thursday, April 3, 2008. The manuscript must be submitted electronically,
on-line at: http://www.editorialmanager.com/jectjournal/.
The format for manuscript submissions is available on the Journal website. No exceptions to this
requirement will be made. Manuscripts already submitted for publication will not be accepted and the
abstract will be rejected.
Authors of abstracts accepted for the Poster Presentation are encouraged to submit
a manuscript for consideration, although this is not mandatory. Any author who has their
abstract accepted for an Oral Presentation but has not submitted manuscript to
JECT will not be allowed to register as a Presenter.
Instructions for Submitting Abstracts
- Only abstracts submitted in the proper format will be considered.
- All abstracts must be received by December 31, 2007.
- Font should be Times New Roman 12pt. There is a 250 word maximum count for all abstracts and 175 word maximum count should you be including a graph/chart as part of your abstract.
- Ensure that the Disclosure Form is completed and returned with the abstract.
Only the Presenting Author should complete this form.
