The Authoritative Update on New Techniques and Technological Advances in Cardiovascular and Minimally Invasive Surgery

Program Description

The comprehensive program of reviewing and updating Techniques and Technologies in Cardiothoracic Surgery includes rapidly evolving fields of minimally invasive surgery, arrhythmia surgery, heart failure treatment, catheter based coronary interventions, endothelial therapy and angiogenesis. Significant findings from research selected by abstract submission will be presented and discussion will be encouraged using specific case studies. The three and a half day program will include a self assessment session, more indepth “how to do it” mini-symposia, in addition to the live case transmissions and original papers presentations to give participants the opportunity to rapidly bring themselves up to date in this evolving field.

Program Objectives

The overall objective of CTT 2001 is to bring you up to date on developments in cardiothoracic surgical techniques and technologies over the past year.

Upon conclusion of this symposium participants should:

  • Understand current status of minimally invasive surgical techniques and new enabling technology
  • Discuss the changing indications and contraindications in patient selection of minimally invasive cardiac surgical procedures
  • Preview techniques towards ambulatory coronary artery surgery
  • Discuss coronary revascularization options for real cases including angiographic reviews in a combined catheter conference and in live operations
  • Understand evolving alternative revascularization options, including drug, TMR and catheter based therapies
  • Review opportunities offered by the internet, such as telemedicine, outcome review and communication with referral physicians
  • Learn how to manage complications of catheter-based therapy, stenosis following multiple stents and failed MICS
  • Learn about new trends for treatment of thoracic aortic disease including endovascular therapy and the training required to perform it
  • Learn about the new therapies for heart failure
  • Preview new cardiac surgical devices at different development stages, from concepts to clinical validation
  • Review and understand alternative techniques for treatment of arrhythmias

New This Year

Opening Day Mini Course

  • Beating Heart Surgery

Self Assessment Course “Case Management”

Symposium: “Towards Ambulatory Coronary Artery Bypass (ACAB)”

Beating heart surgery has made possible the concept of ambulatory coronary artery bypass, providing immediate patient benefits equivalent to interventional cardiology procedures. This important symposium addresses the most recent advances in surgical and patient management techniques with the ultimate goal of achieving outpatient CABG.

Symposium: “Heart Failure”

Include the latest updates on novel remodeling ventricular support devices, alternative therapies for patients with low cardiac output and issues related to redo coronary revascularization.

Satellite Symposia

Impact of E-Health on Cardiac Surgery Practice

The internet has revolutionized information transfer and has enabled telemedicine to be considered a viable concept for patient diagnosis and referring physician education. This symposium will address the impact on the practice of cardiovascular surgery and present emerging opportunities for the surgeon, the interventional cardiologist and industry.
