Memorandum of Understanding for Participation

 in World Heart Foundation’s Affiliates Program

The mission of the World Heart Foundation (WHF), a not-for-profit 501 c3 corporation, is to increase the global equality of high-quality cardiac care by improving access to the underserved who need treatment for heart disease.  WHF’s initial efforts focus on facilitating treatment for children, young adults, and adults suffering from heart disease in developing countries. To accomplish this, the WHF maintains close affiliations with the medical professional societies and organizations that represent the cardiothoracic surgery specialty and with humanitarian organizations that aid in the delivery of treatment for heart disease to those in need.

The WHF has established its Affiliates Program to enhance collaboration between humanitarian organizations and thus improve the level of care provided to the underserved.  Affiliates are non-profit, non-governmental humanitarian organizations devoted to facilitating cardiac care to underdeveloped countries.

The WHF agrees to serve its Affiliates by providing centralized functions:

• develop a community in which medical and non-medical professionals can develop, learn, and discuss the practices involved in delivering cardiac care in various cultural and health care environments. This community is served through in-person meetings and through, among other efforts, collaborative Internet-based tools on the WHF Website (www.world-heart.org).
• develop an interactive and searchable directory of Affiliates on the WHF Website.
• publish news items and articles about its Affiliates, written by the Affiliates or the WHF and published on the WHF Website with attribution.
• promote and facilitate the work of its Affiliates by widening the exposure to the medical community and the public of the Affiliates’ efforts.  By highlighting and providing links to articles of interest on Affiliates’ web sites and providing a search mechanism on the WHF Website to allow readers to locate items of interest. 

Affiliates agree to participate in the following collaborative activities:

• participate in the WHF’s effort.
• be listed as an Affiliate on the WHF’s print and online publications, including its directory.
• contribute news items, pertinent articles and data to the WHF Website, when feasible.
• allow the WHF to promote Affiliate’s work by highlighting and providing links to articles of interest on Affiliate’s website and by allowing readers to locate items of interest on Affiliate’s website via a search tool located on the WHF’s Website. 
• allow the WHF to highlight Affiliate’s projects, activities, and results to raise funds to support the efforts of this community.
• appoint a person, the Affiliate Data Manager, responsible for updating and coordinating the Affiliate’s listings on the WHF Website with WHF.

Effective until June 30 of the year signatures are complete.  Automatically renews annually unless cancelled in writing by either party.  Each party (a) acknowledges that the operation of its Web site will not be uninterrupted or error-free and may be subject to temporary shutdowns due to causes beyond the operating party's reasonable control, (b) retains sole right and control over the programming and content of its respective site or service, and (c) retains sole ownership and control over its respective trade name, trademarks and logos.
