Guidelines for Submission

Thank you for your interest in submitting a case for the “Case of the Month” section of CTSNET.

Case selection: Any case that is of clinical relevance and interest to the subspecialty.

Case content: Cases should contain relevant clinical information pertaining to the subject augmented by the use of photographs and video clips. The discussion should be evidence based and provide useful information regarding any of the following: epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, management, or outcomes of the topic being presented. It is not necessary to include all elements in each case presentation.

Structure: The subject material should be organized under the following headings.

Introduction - outlining the relevance of the subject and including general pertinent information on the subject.

Case presentation - consisting of the history and physical, relevant investigations, management, and outcomes. Photographs, other illustrations, photomicrographs of histopathology, and videos of the case may be appropriate to include.

Discussion - a brief review of the current literature and a thoughtful analysis of the same, highlighting diagnosis, etiology, pathology, management, and the likely future direction the field of medicine will take in this area.

Summary - mentioning the salient features of the discussion and providing an evidence-based strategy for management.

References - a list of approximately 5-10 recently published and important articles should be provided.

Format: A Microsoft Word document with figure and video locations denoted in the text with figure legends at the end of the text. Each figure must have an accompanying explanatory legend and or be clearly labeled. Figures and videos should be submitted as separate files and may not be incorporated into the document.

The text of the presentation should have adequate detail of the clinical information pertaining to the case and a detailed description of the management that was undertaken. Extraneous material that does not add directly to the utility of the presentation should not be included.

The body of the text should be limited to 1000 words, with rare exceptions. It is expected that the presentation will rely heavily on figures to emphasize the salient features of the case. The quality and relevance of these figures will be considered as important as the text of the presentation. The figures should be used to illustrate the clinical details, investigations, and management of the case. They can be line drawings, photographs, radiologic studies, and videos.

Figures should be in JPG format. The size of the files is unimportant, assuming they are of adequate pixel density to render well on the screen. Large files can always be converted to smaller files, so file size should not be a concern of the author, although bigger (600 x 400 pixel range) is preferable to smaller. Large files may have to be transmitted on a disk rather than as an e-mail attachment. Images that are embedded in a file, such as a Microsoft Word document, are not acceptable.

Videos should be brief and clear and should be prepared as per CTSNet Video Submission Instructions.

The CTSNet Conditions for Publication form should be completed and accompany your submission.

If you are not the copyright holder of a portion of the article such as the figures or video, you should obtain permission to reprint the items from the copyright holder. The form for this can be found at http://www.ctsnet.org/doc/3443.

Thank you in advance for your submission. If you have concerns or questions regarding the same, do not hesitate to contact me.
