The CTSNet Clinical Cases Section was developed to highlight brief clinical case presentations by residents-in-training and practicing cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons. The advantage of an internet-based case presentation includes the ease of accessibility and the benefits of multi-media presentations. Unlike printed manuscripts, this section will be able to highlight color pictures, operative videos, echocardiograms, cardiac catheterization films, and other imaging studies. Active participation of residents in training and practicing surgeons from around the world will positively impact the ongoing education of all members of the CTSNet Community. We look forward to your contributions.

Please do not submit material that has been previously published. All case presentations should include the following:

Title/Cover Page

  • Title
  • Brief Summary—Provide a brief summary of less than 150 words.
  • Authors—List a maximum of six authors in the order they should appear including for each: first name, family name, and institutional affiliation (department is optional).
  • Corresponding Author—Provide the name, e-mail address and telephone number, of the author to whom communications should be directed.
  • Announcement Text—300-character (including spaces and punctuation) or less description of the content to be used for an announcement on the CTSNet Home Page. The title is NOT acceptable announcement text--the title should not be part of the announcement text.
  • Subject/Classification Terms—One or more terms from the CTSNet Content Subject Classification list that identify the primary subject category of the content.
  • Disclosure—Include disclosure information if it is applicable.

Text

Provide a brief pertinent history and case summary, operative course, postoperative results, and conclusions.

  • Content Format—A Microsoft Word document with figure and video (if included) locations denoted in the text with figure legends at the end of the text.
  • Video—Videos should be brief and clear and should be prepared as per CTSNet Video Submission Instructions.
  • Illustrations/Video—Because this is a multimedia internet presentation, please provide pertinent illustrations, images, tables, and brief video clips as applicable.
    • Illustrations—Submit images as JPG files. The size of the files is unimportant, assuming they are of adequate pixel density to render well on the screen. Large files can always be converted to smaller files, so file size should not be a concern of the author, although bigger (600 x 400 pixel range) is preferable to smaller.
    • Video—Videos should be brief and clear and should be prepared as per CTSNet Video Submission Instructions.
    • Images or videos that are embedded in a file, such as a Microsoft Word document, are not acceptable.
  • Figure/Video Legends—Each figure and video must have an accompanying explanatory legend and be clearly labeled.
  • Please ensure that the text, images, and video contains no specific patient information and are HIPPA compliant.
  • References—Limit to less than 10.
