Attending Cardiac Surgeon (United States)

The cardiothoracic surgery division at Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center is seeking an ABS/ABTS eligible/certified candidate to join a 300 case/year practice, run by two surgeons, after one of our members has decided to relocate out of state.
In 2007 the division increased the volume by 26% compared to 2006. We performed all types of adult cardiac surgery procedures (with the exception of cardiac transplantation), including CABG (on/off pump), mitral replacement/repair, tricuspid replacement/repair, Bentall procedure, valve sparing aortic root replacement (David I), Elephant trunk procedure with individual head vessel reimplantation, RVAD/LVAD placement. We are also the first Massachusetts hospital to perform the Paracor device implantation for heart failure since we are active participants in the Paracor trial. in 2006 our CABG mortality was 1.76% and our 'all other' emergent/urgent/elective in hospital cardiac mortality was 1.69% (including all valves, combined valve/CABG, acute dissections and all great vessel procedures).
The service is covered 24/7 by a team of 8 physician assistants, who work exclusively for the division (no general surgery call). There is also an ACGME fellow from an outside hospital rotating throughout the year.
The two partners would share 50/50 call
(5 weekend procedures performed last year). The successful recruit will be eligible for an academic appointment with Tufts University School of Medicine.
Interested candidates should contact Dr. George Tolis through the following email address :
