Transitions Archive - 2006- Transitions Headlines -Hermes C. Grillo, MD: Oct 2, 1923 - Oct 14, 2006 Hermes C. Grillo, MD, world renowned Thoracic Surgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital, died Saturday, October 14 near Ravenna, Italy in an automobile accident. STSA Officers - 2006-2007 At the recently concluded Annual meeting of the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association (STSA) in Tucson, the following slate of officers was elected. Dr. Wiliam Pierce to receive the ACS 2007 Jacobson Award Dr. Wiliam S. Pierce of Hershey Medical Center to receive the prestigious ACS 2007 Jacobson Award Richard M. Peters: Feb. 21, 1922 - Sep. 1, 2006 Richard Morse Peters was born in New Haven February 21, 1922, and he died in Palo Alto, California on September 1, 2006. ESTS Officers 2006-2007 At the recently concluded EACTS/ESTS meeting in Stockholm, the following European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) officers were elected for 2006-2007. Dr. Clarence S. Weldon Deceased Dr. Clarence S. Weldon, retired professor of cardiothoracic surgery at Washington University, St. Louis, Misssouri, died July 17, 2006, of renal failure in San Francisco. Robert Karp, MD Family and friends were stunned to learn of the sudden death of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Karp in an automobile accident in Chateauroux, France in the evening of May 18th. Norman E. Shumway, MD, PhD Norman E. Shumway MD, a giant among giants, died February 10th, 2006, one day after his 83rd birthday. Read the Tribute by Doctors Bruce A. Reitz and William A. Baumgartner 2006-2007 STS Board of Directors At the recent meeting in Chicago, the STS slate of Directors for 2006-2007 was announced. WTS Officers The Women in Thoracic Surgery organization (WTS) announces a new slate of officers. Dr. McLaughlin honored On Tuesday, April 12, 2005, the University of Maryland School of Medicine honored Joseph McLaughlin, MD, a distinguished member of the School of Medicine Surgery faculty, with a portrait to be hung in the Cardiac Surgery Conference Room. George C. Lindesmith M.D. George Lindesmith passed away at 77 years of age on January 7th, 2006 He was the 25th President of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. A Tribute by Dr. Winfred J. Wells is included. Robert G. Ellison M.D. Robert Ellison, MD died January 8, 2006. He was associated with the Medical College of Georgia throughout his professional life. A tribute to Dr. Ellison by Dr. W. Gerald Rainer is included. |
