The two were world-famous in their own rights, and their careers intersected through their common interest in developing extracorporeal circulation. The talk, entitled "Extracorporeal Perfusion, Alexis Carrel, and Charles Lindbergh," by Robert M. Sade, MD, was prepared in advance of The First Lindbergh-Carrel Award Ceremony on February 4, 2002; the award honors scientists who have made important contributions to extracorporeal perfusion, as Carrel and Lindbergh did in the early 1930s. Because Dr. Sade could not be physically present at the ceremony, his address to the conference was delivered by way of this video.
