Prof. Hans Pilegaard

Professor Hans Pilegaard is a consultant at the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Department at the Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark. He is Chairman of the Danish Surgical Lung Cancer group, and has been Chairman of the Danish Society of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Pilegaard has performed over 1000 cardiac operations and 3000 thoracic operations including heart and lung transplantation. Over the last 8 years he has specialized in Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Pilegaard has performed over 1000 Nuss procedures and recently published his experience in the over 30 age group in the EJCTS. He uses a much shorter bar than the usual Nuss technique and uses 2 bars in 60% of over 30 year olds.

In this interview he describes aspects of his technique. The description is interspersed with footage of an operation that he performed at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in September 2011. There are also illustrations and examples of the results of surgery.
