Biological Bentall with Biovalsalva Conduit

This video shows the main surgical aspects of the Bentall-De Bono procedure with a new biological composite conduit. This is the case of a 76-year-old man with ascending aorta aneurysm and aortic valve cusp calcification. The composite conduit utilized for aortic root and aortic valve replacement is a prefabricated biological valve, called BioValsalva. The tube is made with a new three layer material called Triplex instead of Dacron. The three layers are, from the inner to the outer surface: polyesters, self-sealing elastomeric membrane and ePTFE. The graft has a Valsalva root shape. The valve used in the conduit is a stentless porcine bioprosthesis: the Elan. Main advantages of this conduit are: haemostatic, due to the material, the reduced tension of coronary buttons, due to its “neo-sinuses” shape, plus the advantages of a stentless biological prosthesis. As the video demonstrates, implantation is easy and does not differ from a standard Bentall procedure.
