This talk features Joseph Zacharias, a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at the Lancashire Cardiac Center in Blackpool, England, delivering a presentation on “Can the Endoscope ‘Challenge’ the Catheter?” at the Endoscopic Cardiac Surgeons Club Meeting 2025.
In his presentation, he discussed the case of an 83-year-old man diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, mitral regurgitation, and tricuspid regurgitation, detailing the surgical technique employed. He also explored the landscape of endoscopic cardiac surgery—both robotic and non-robotic—and the disruptive nature of technology. Furthermore, he examined transcatheter techniques, such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), noting their limitations, and discussed the broader shift toward minimally invasive procedures away from traditional sternotomy.
The Endoscopic Cardiac Surgeons Club is dedicated to raising global awareness of the benefits of endoscopic cardiac surgery among patients, surgeons, and industry partners. Additional ECSC videos will be available in the coming weeks.
