This session features leading surgeons discussing mitral valve interventions at the Transcatheter Heart Valves Greece (THVGreece) 2026 conference.
Moderators Lampros K. Michalis, Professor of Cardiology, University of Ioannina, Director, 2nd Cardiology Department, University General Hospital of Ioannina, Greece; and Konstantinos Spargias, Director of the Transcatheter Heart Valves Department at Hygeia Hospital in Athens, led an esteemed panel of specialists, including:
- Emmanouil Vavuranakis, Interventional Cardiologist, Professor of Cardiology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
- Athanassios Manginas, Director of Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at Mediterraneo Hospital, Athens
- Antonios Ziakas, Professor of Cardiology and Interventional Cardiologist in the First Department of Cardiology, AHEPA University Hospital, Thessaloniki
- Petros Danias, Head of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Department, Hygeia Hospital, Marousi

The first presentation, “MTEER in DMR” was delivered by Dr. Ioannis Iakovou, an interventional cardiologist and Director of the Hemodynamic Studies and Interventional Cardiology Department at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center in Athens.
Next, Dr. Konstantinos Toutouzas, Professor of Cardiology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, presented on “MTEER in FMR.”
The third presentation, “TMVR in Challenging Anatomy,” was given by Dr. Vlasis Ninios, Director of the Cardiology Department at the Interbalkan European Medical Center in Thessaloniki.
Next, Dr. Gregory Pattakos, Director of the 2nd Cardiac Surgery Clinic and Associate Director of the Division of Transcatheter Heart Valves at HYGEIA Hospital in Athens, presented on “MAC.”
The final presentation, “Repair in Barlow’s Disease Made Easy: The Minotaur Technique” was presented by Dr. Theodoros Kofidis, Director of the International Heart Surgery Center Greece and Director of the 1st Cardiac Surgery Clinic at HYGEIA Hospital in Athens.
