At the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs (ASAIO) 2025 Annual Conference, Andrea Fasbinder, ventricular assist device nurse coordinator at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, presented on “The VAD Road Map to the ACCU: Improving Clinician and Family Expectations From the CVICU to the ACCU.”

Fasbinder outlined the cohort, including the pre-road map cohort and post-road map cohort, as well as the ventricular assist device (VAD) road map to the adult cardiac care unit (ACCU). She also presented the survey sent to patients and families aimed at improving their expectations transitioning from the cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) to the ACCU. The discussion covered the survey results, including the respondents and the insights gained, highlighting that families reported feeling more comfortable and informed throughout the process. Additionally, she addressed the key takeaways and future direction for improving patient and family experiences.
