At the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery Annual Scientific Meeting 2025, Dr. Robert J. Cerfolio, Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at NYU Langone Health, delivered a presentation titled “Robotic Carinal Resection With ECMO.”  

During his presentation, he shared surgical footage of a robotic carinal resection using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). He provided detailed insights into the steps of the procedure, the techniques employed, and valuable tips for successfully executing this operation.  

Dr. Cerfolio also discussed outcomes associated with tracheal resection, highlighting aspects such as the absence of a guardian chin stitch, chest tube removal during the operation, and the avoidance of ICU admission. Furthermore, he emphasized the significance of motivation, teamwork, and how to make changes within your organization.
