In the attached video, a technique for robotically implanting a partial mitral annuloplasty band is described. It was important to anchor the band to the medial and lateral trigones and to appropriately space the band so that the center mark aligned with the middle of the posterior leaflet. Several techniques may be used to improve annular exposure while running a horizontal mattress suture to secure the ring to the annulus. These include retraction of the band, applying gentle traction on the atrial tissue or on previously placed sutures, and using the needle itself to pull up the annulus. The use of the robotic atrial retractor arm also makes dynamic retraction easier while sewing in the ring and employing a technique with multiple anchoring annuloplasty sutures enables smoother suture management.
