The course is designed to provide the cardiothoracic surgeon in training with didactic teaching and hands on cadaveric surgical training experience in surgical aspects of cardiopulmonary transplantation. Delegates will have the opportunity to undertake cardiac and lung transplantation on fresh, frozen human cadavers under the guidance of a faculty of experienced surgeons. Delegates will also implant left ventricular assist devices, practise cannulation for ECMO and gain practical experience of ex vivo lung perfusion. This is an intensive two day course of lectures, debate and hands on surgical practice and opportunity. The Institute of Transplantation, Freeman Hospital enjoys an international reputation for cardiopulmonary transplantation, mechanical assist devices, innovation and education in heart and lung failure surgery.
