Birmingham Review Course 2024 | Cases in Thoracic Sepsis [1]

Currently in its 32nd year, the Birmingham Review Course [3] is the longest-running course in the cardiothoracic specialty. The 2025 course promises an immersive learning experience featuring didactic lectures and interactive seminars on cardiac and thoracic topics, along with opportunities to engage with an international faculty. The 2025 Birmingham Review Course will take place from September 11–13, 2025.
At the 2024 Birmingham Review Course, Dr. Richard Milton, consultant thoracic surgeon at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals, presented a course titled “Thoracic Sepsis.” In this presentation, he reviewed actual cases with learners to explore and understand the symptoms, diseases, and causes involved in these cases. Professor Milton collaborated with participants to determine effective treatments options. Informed by guidelines and utilizing imaging and patient data, he guided learners through multiple cases, interactively diagnosing and identifying when surgery is necessary, and the appropriate surgical techniques, for various infectious lung diseases, including PVL-associated necrotizing pneumonia and bronchopleural fistula.
