Surgical Correction of Pentalogy of Fallot [1]

This video shows surgical repair of pentalogy of Fallot in a thirteen-year-old boy. A team of British surgeons assisted the team at the National Cardiothoracic Centre in Accra, Ghana with this operation. The patient had a delayed diagnosis for this condition. In addition, it was thought to be a tetralogy of Fallot until intraoperative TOE found an additional ASD to make this pentalogy of Fallot.
The patient had oxygen saturation of 70 percent and significant collaterals. He was placed on bypass, the pericardium was harvested, and the PDA was ligated. Next, the right atrium and the right ventricular outflow tract were opened. A patch was placed on the VSD, an enlargement patch on the RVOT, and finally a patch on the ASD. Finally, the right atrium was closed and the operation concluded.
