Laurens W Wollersheim, M.D., PhD

Born and raised in Nijmegen, in the East of the Netherlands.

After high school (stedelijk gymnasium Nijmegen) started Medical school in 2005 in Amsterdam at the University of Amsterdam.

Graduated Medical school in 2012, after a clinical research fellowship at Harvard Medical School in 2010, under the supervision of dr LH Cohn, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, department of cardiothoracic surgery. And a clinical rotation at the Texas Heart Institute in 2012, under the supervision of dr Duncan and dr D Cooley, at St Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, department of cardiothoracic surgery.

Received my PhD in 2016 at the University of Amsterdam, on clinical research studies on stentless aortic valve bioprosthesis: ”Aortic valve replacement and the stentless Freedom Solo valve”.

Started as a resident Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Radboudumc in 2016, in Nijmegen, under the supervision of prof W Morshuis. Completed residency in 2022, with a special focus on Aortic surgery.

After residency started to work in Medical Center Leeuwarden. Were I further developed the aortic surgery program, and started an endovascular collaboration with the vascular surgeons. After 2 years in Leeuwarden a collegue and I started a minimally invasive valve and cabg programm; where my focus is on the TCRAT (total coronary revascularization anterior thoracotomy), and trans-axillary valve surgery.
