ESTS 2025 | Presidential Address
In May 2025, the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons held its 33rd Annual Meeting in Budapest, where leading surgeons discussed the latest advancements and innovations in thoracic surgery.
At the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) 33rd Annual Meeting, Dr. Pierre-Emmanuel Falcoz, professor of thoracic surgery at New Civil Hospital in France, introduced the current ESTS president and discussed her professional and personal background.
Following this, Dr. Nuria M. Novoa, Chief of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at University Hospital Puerta de Hierro-Majadahonda in Madrid and the 2024-2025 ESTS President, delivered the presidential address titled “Learning and Teaching—A Never Ending Story.” In her presentation, she highlighted the importance of learning and teaching in medicine, detailing the six core teaching competencies. She also addressed the foundational principles in academic medicine learning and emphasized the importance of mentoring.
