Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland

The Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain & Ireland (SCTS) was established in 1934 to advance the development of cardiac and thoracic surgery. As a membership organization representing almost all cardiothoracic surgeons in the UK, alongside a growing international membership, SCTS is dedicated to improving outcomes for patients undergoing heart, chest and lung surgery.

We support surgeons and multidisciplinary teams through education, training, mentorship, professional development, standards setting, research, and advocacy. Cardiothoracic surgery is a life-saving, high-stakes, high-value specialty, delivered by exceptional surgeons and their teams.

“Making Heart, Chest & Lung Surgery Better.”
