In the hands of experts, surgery for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy can turn a disease with a previously dim prognosis into a condition that can be easily overcome. This panel of cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons, led by Dr. Eduard Quintana, gives a well-rounded look at various techniques to perfect the groundbreaking procedure.
3. Lung Cancer Screening—Health Care Disparities [20]
Edited by Virginia Litle [21]; featuring Kei Suzuki [22]; Azante Griffith [23] et al.; Rian Hasson Charles [24]; Michael Poulson [25]; Cherie Erkmen [26]; and Gita Mody [27]
Screening for lung cancer is important in its prevention, just as surgery is important in its treatment. Dr. Litle brought together a group of professionals working to identify and dismantle disparities in lung cancer screening across communities with a high percentage of low-income and uninsured patients. The resulting articles, presentations, and roundtables give a starting point for healthcare professionals who may want to implement a more accessible lung cancer screening program in their hospital systems.
4. Surgical Atrial Fibrillation—What We Must Do and What We Can Do [28]
Edited by Marc Gerdisch [29]; featuring Eric Okum [30]; Mark La Meir [31]; Patrick McCarthy [32]; Lauren Barron [33] et al.; Gianluigi Bisleri [34]; Niv Ad [35]; Christian Shults [36]; and Armin Kiankhooy [37]
As surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation continues to expand, surgeons have become overwhelmed with options. In his guest editor series, Dr. Gerdisch aimed to find the path of least resistance, simplifying the groundbreaking ability to treat atrial fibrillation surgically into the least invasive and most effective approaches. His contributors lend their unique takes on the challenge, from the Cox-Maze procedure to convergent hybrid ablation.
5. Surgical Management of Acute Aortic Dissections: Tricks and Tips to Simplify the Operation [38]
Edited by Konstadinos Plestis [39]; featuring Jonathan Hemli et al.; Saket Singh [40] et al.; Oleg Orlov [41] et al.; Edgar Aranda-Michel et al.; John Kelly et al.; Chris Mehta et al.; and Vishal Shah [42] et al.
Aortic dissection repair is a difficult procedure, and the emergent surgery is most often performed by non-aortic surgeons. This series aims to offer education on standard aortic dissection repair techniques, allowing more surgeons to be well-informed and confident in replicating these procedures. The videos cover each step of aortic dissection treatment, from pre-operative echocardiogram to postoperative bleeding prevention.
