Dr. Grau graduated with an MD from the Universidad de Alcalá in Madrid, Spain in 1990. He immigrated to the United States where he pursued a residency in the Department of Surgery at New York University (NYU), including two terms as executive chief resident, followed by a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery, with board certifications in general surgery and thoracic surgery. He has served as a cardiothoracic surgeon and faculty member at NYU, the University of Pennsylvania, the Columbia University system and, most recently , the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. His clinical interests include advanced coronary revascularization using arterial grafting and off-pump approach with a non-touch technique of the aorta; advanced aortic and mitral valve repair techniques; the treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with LVOT obstruction; and adult congenital surgery.
