Smerida N. Septal 3D Anatomy to Guide a Septal Myectomy. March 2022. doi:10.25373/ctsnet.19449803

This article is part of CTSNet’s Guest Editor Series, “Operative Management of Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy—Gold Standard Septal Myectomy to Stand the Test of Time.” Guest editor Eduard Quintana has curated a robust collection of content that shares the knowledge, techniques, and insights of several distinguished experts from around the world. See the full series here.

This video describes the authors’ surgical technique to treat severe symptomatic hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy through a median sternotomy. This technique is mainly inspired from the Morrow septal myectomy. The author will highlight the main anatomical landmarks that drive the surgical resection and that must be kept in the surgeon’s mind to allow for a safe and efficient surgical procedure. Finally, the video will discuss when it is advisable to add an edge-to-edge mitral stich during the modified Morrow myectomy and the author’s way of doing so.
