Cognition Guided Surgery - Knowledge-based Assistance System for Reconstructive Cardiac Valve Surgery

Reconstructive cardiac valve surgery requires the precise assessment and interpretation of the complex geometry and function of the heart valves. The aim of the project is to create a knowledge-based assistance system, which will continuously provide the surgeon with relevant geometrical and functional knowledge, thereby acting as a new, quantitative decision support tool. 3D parameters will be collected along with pre- and intra-operative clinical parameters. All parameters will be correlated with the postoperative results, transferred into the knowledge base of the TCRC and interpreted by the system.
