Investigators reported, in abstract form, promising results of a single dose of radiotherapy, delivered with electorphysiologic guidance, for managing ventricular tachycardia. Seventy-eight percent of patients had a clinically important reduction in ventricular tachycardia episodes.

Boersma and associates reported the outcomes of left atrial appendage (LAA) closure with the Watchman device in international registry (EWOLUTION), which recruited 1,020 patients from 47 different centers. Mean age was 73.4 years and 49% had a CHA2DS2-VASc score of 5 or higher—indicating a high risk of stroke.

A medium-size RCT comparing full sternotomy to limited sternotomy for conventional aortic valve replacement, presented at the SCTS Annual Meeting in Glasgow. The 7-10% one year attrition rate seems quite disappointing, and will most probably be discussed. We will await the full paper to see what was the learning curve for the innovative approach.
