Foreign bodies that are adherent to or eroding through the gastric mucosa pose particular challenges for removal, with endoscopic or open techniques being the most commonly used. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first report of a laparoscopic transgastric approach for the resection of surgical mesh eroding through the stomach.
The authors present a case report, depicted in video format with intraoperative footage, of a 66-year-old male with surgical mesh eroding through the gastroesophageal junction following a hiatal hernia repair. This video outlines the laparoscopic transgastric approach utilized to resect the foreign body. The patient tolerated the procedure well and was discharged home on postoperative day one.
The laparoscopic transgastric approach had a variety of potential utilizations and represents a well-tolerated option for the removal of gastric foreign bodies not retrievable endoscopically, including those which have eroded through mucosa.

Did you check to see if the mesh was completely internalized within the stomach lumen?
