In this special guest lecture for the 2026 Society of Thoracic Surgery of Thailand, Dr. Vince Gaudiani addresses essential surgical techniques for the safe removal of transcatheter aortic valves and their replacement with surgical aortic valves.
Dr. Vince Gaudiani discusses the optimal approach for making the aortic incision. He presented his technique known as the handlebar moustache technique, whereby he cuts the valve, then grasps the two cut edges and rotates them inward, effectively shrinking the valve away from the annulus to facilitate easier removal.
He also addresses complete removal techniques, potential complications, and strategies for managing those complications.
