Lifelong Observations on Heart Valve Surgery

In this video, Tirone David gives an invited talk during the STSA 62nd Annual Meeting Postgraduate Program in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Dr. David discusses the functional anatomy of heart valves and their role in surgical treatment, comparative results for various devices used in heart surgery, and repair versus replacement in the treatment of heart valve disease. He also draws upon his more than 30 years of clinical practice and experience to consider operative mortality, morbidity, and long-term outcomes, as well as procedures that improve patient survival and functional recovery. Dr. David is a past president of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, and he currently serves as Professor and Head of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Toronto General Hospital in Toronto, Canada. He is world-renowned for his surgical skills and innovations.
