Thursday, January 31, 2019

Jayakumar S, McKenna J, Elliott M. The Evolution of Cardiac Surgery. January 2019. doi:10.25373/ctsnet.7619393.

Shruti Jayakumar of St George’s University Hospital in London, UK, interviews Martin Elliott of the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London and John McKenna of Edinburgh, UK, about the changes in cardiac surgery that have been most interesting and impactful during the course of their respective careers. They discuss the changes in the relationship between surgeons and industry, emphasizing the importance of creative spirit and the critical need for data transparency. They also highlight two innovations that they feel have profoundly changed cardiac surgery: advances in imaging, and the internet. Finally, Mr Elliott and Mr McKenna both discuss the people who have been inspirational to them.
