CTSNet Editor-in-Chief Joel Dunning spoke with Dr. Sameh Said about his innovative solution aimed at improving the survival rates of neonates and increasing the likelihood of completing their palliative staged surgeries, as demonstrated in “EXIT-to-Open Atrial Septectomy for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome With Intact Atrial Septum: Gone in 90 Seconds!" 

They discussed the details of the surgery, the development of this procedure, and the simulations conducted prior to this operation. Dr. Said emphasized the significance of teamwork in complex cases like this, as well as the postoperative outcomes and the first attempt at this groundbreaking procedure.
