Insights About the Aswan Technique for Common Arterial Trunk Repair: An Interview With Magdi Yacoub

In this engaging interview, Dr. Amr Alsalakawy, a cardiothoracic surgeon at Aswan Heart Center and Research, Magdi Yacoub Foundation, spoke with Dr. Magdi Yacoub, Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute at the Imperial College London, and Founder and Director of Research at the Harefield Heart Science Center, Magdi Yacoub Institute, about the Aswan technique for common arterial trunk repair.  

They explored the limitations of previous repair methods for the common arterial trunk, which prompted the development of the Aswan technique. The conversation covers the advantages of this approach, along with tips and tricks for performing this procedure. Dr. Yacoub also details the steps of the Aswan technique, showing a real-life example of its application.  

Furthermore, they address critical topics such as minimizing the free pulmonary regurgitation, advancements in right atrial appendage valves, and truncal valve abnormalities. Additionally, they discussed the preferred age group for this repair and pulmonary hypertension.
