SCTS 2025 | Mitral Annular Disjunction and Mitral Valve Repair

In March 2025, the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland held its annual meeting, bringing together professionals in the field of cardiothoracic surgery to discuss the latest advancements in technologies and techniques. At the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland Annual Meeting, Dr. Guy Lloyd, clinical director of cardiovascular diagnostics at Barts Health NHS Trust, London, England, delivered a presentation on mitral annular disjunction (MAD) and mitral valve repair. He addressed topics such as mechanical dispersion, left ventricular fibrosis associated with MAD and systolic circling, arrhythmic mitral valve prolapse, and proposed pathophysiology and targets for treatment. Dr. Lloyd also explored annular stabilization, surgical intervention, ablation, and defibrillator prophylaxis.
