A Simplified Approach to the Bentall Procedure

Wednesday, April 2, 2025

Francis J, Haworth X, Alkhaddour A, Buchan K. A Simplified Approach to the Bentall Procedure. April 2025. doi:10.25373/ctsnet.28716206

The authors wish to highlight their technique for performing a Bentall procedure in cases of acute Type A aortic dissection. As mentioned in the video narrative, this technique is not suitable for all cases, and the standard deep hypothermic circulatory arrest approach remains the preferred method for cases where the head and neck vessels or aortic arch are extensively affected by the dissection process.

Links have been provided in the “Related Resources” section to two adjunctive videos. The first video, “Arch 90 Degree Bend,” provides greater detail on safely introducing a 90-degree bend into an ascending aortic graft and the rationale for doing so. The other linked video, “Innominate Vessel Surgery in Cardiac Surgery,” is a short tutorial on the innominate artery and vein, addressing common anomalies of the artery, with a discussion about preservation, division, and reconstruction of the innominate vein.
