This video shows a 53-year-old male patient with severe COPD. His computed angiography showed a Crawford Type I thoracoabdominal aneurysm. His right kidney was atrophic, and the aneurysm was extending just proximal to the left renal artery.

Mini-sternotomy is being increasingly adopted for surgery of the aortic valve and ascending aorta. This adds greater complexity when compared to a standard median sternotomy approach. This video describes technical modifications that allow the surgeon to overcome these challenges in a case requiring deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA), aortic valve, and hemiarch repair.

Hybrid aortic procedures have the potential to reduce morbidity and mortality in patients that may not be reasonable candidates for a traditional open operation. This article examines a hybrid procedure performed on a 60-year-old male who had received four previous open-heart operations and who had numerous co-morbidities.

The number of ports used in minimally invasive cardiac surgery can be reduced to one with the assistance of the latest technologies and a custom-made instrument. The authors demonstrate a novel single incision technique, where no other ports for instruments and no small incision for femoral cannulation is required.

Tricuspid valve regurgitation is not uncommon in patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and has been shown to be a significant factor affecting the success of staged surgical palliation in these patients. This video demonstrates tricuspid valve repair in an eleven-month-old male infant with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

Surgical techniques for repair of insufficient bicuspid aortic valves are now quite reproducible. Outcome analyses have shown low late valve-related complication and failure rates.

The CardioWest™ Total Artificial Heart (TAH) is a biventricular orthotopic pneumatic pulsatile pump that totally replaces the native ventricles and valves and is currently approved as a bridge to heart transplatation in selected patients.

Scimitar Syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly with a bimodal presentation that requires surgical intervention. This video illustrates a safe and minimally invasive approach to surgical correction for this anomaly performed on an adult patient.

Taped at the STS 49th Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, this roundtable discussion focuses on transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and the role surgeons and the entire heart team play in the TAVR procedure.

The completion Fontan operation is, as the name implies, the final stage of palliation for patients who have had previous surgery to address various types of single ventricle congenital heart disease.
