Long-Term Outcomes of Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement Using a Third-Generation Stented Bovine Pericardial Bioprosthesis in 1907 Patients

This single-center retrospective study evaluated long-term outcomes after surgical aortic valve replacement with the Perimount Magna Ease bioprosthesis in 1,907 patients at 12 years of follow-up. Thirty-day mortality was 2.8 percent, stroke occurred in 2.8 percent, and permanent pacemaker implantation in 3.3 percent. Survival rates were 93.3 percent, 77.6 percent, 48.0 percent, and 37.8 percent at one, five, 10, and 12 years. Structural valve deterioration-related reintervention occurred in 2.7 percent, with freedom from reintervention of 98.3 percent, 90.8 percent, and 85.1 percent at five, 10, and 12 years. Mean transprosthetic gradients remained low at 16.0 ± 8.3 mmHg at 12 years. The authors conclude that the valve provides durable hemodynamic performance and excellent long-term freedom from structural deterioration-related reintervention.
