This talk features Antonios Pitsis, Head of Cardiac Surgery at the European Interbalkan Medical Center, Thessaloniki, Greece, and Visiting Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Belgrade, Serbia, presenting on “How I Do Complex Mitral Repairs Endoscopically” at the Endoscopic Cardiac Surgeons Club Meeting 2025.
In his presentation, he discussed the case of a 67-year-old patient presenting with dyspnea and severed mitral regurgitation (MR) with a flail posterior mitral leaflet (PML). He detailed the preoperative mitral valve repair strategy guided by transesophageal echocardiography (TOE), specifically focusing on the preoperative determination of neochord length, number, and positioning.
He also reviewed a study he co-authored, titled “Preoperative Determination of Artificial Chordae Tendineae Length by Transesophageal Echocardiography in Totally Endoscopic Mitral Valve Repair.” He outlined the study’s key question, findings, and the take-home message.
