This cardiac session features leading surgeons providing updates on complex cardiac surgical interventions at the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery Annual Scientific Meeting 2026.
To begin, Danny Ramzy, Professor and Chief of Cardiac Surgery at McGovern Medical School and UTHealth in Houston, Texas, USA, presented on “Robotic Aortic Valve Replacement Post TAVR.” He addressed the rising prevalence of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), the challenges of TAVR explantation, robotic aortic valve replacement, and TAVR-first vs surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR)-first strategies.
Next, Marco Solinas, a consultant in Cardiac Surgery at Ospedale del Cuore, Fondazione Toscana G. Monasterio in Massa, Italy, discussed “How to Explant Mitraclip or Pascal Devices Endoscopically.” His presentation covered transcatheter mitral valve replacement with atrial fixation for severe atrial functional mitral regurgitation (FMR), as well as totally endoscopic redo tricuspid repair with a modified clover triple edge-to-edge technique. He also examined various cases and images.
Finally, Bart P. van Putte, a cardiothoracic surgeon at the St. Antonius Heart Center at St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein, Netherlands, and the AMC Heart Center at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, Netherlands, presented “The First Prospective Safety and Effectiveness Trial of the ELANA Heart Bypass System in Coronary Bypass Grafting (SAFE-CAB Trial).” He discussed the ELANA six-step sutureless anastomosis system and detailed the clinical trial, including its methodology, sample size, endpoints, and results.
