The direct-view transaxillary approach represents a significant evolution that is ready for widespread clinical adoption. It provides a simplified surgical setup that enhances the experience for both patients and surgeons.
By reducing the reliance on specialized, expensive technology—performed under direct vision—while maintaining excellent technical outcomes, the transaxillary approach makes minimally invasive surgery more accessible to a broader range of surgeons in various healthcare environments. Furthermore, this approach minimizes tissue trauma and invasiveness, allowing for “ultrafast-track” protocols and perfectly fitting into modern Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols.
In this video, the authors present a case of a double-valve intervention and left atrial appendage occlusion performed on a male patient who suffered from severe aortic and mitral regurgitation and permanent atrial fibrillation.
