CTSNet Editor in Chief Joel Dunning spoke with Dr. Busra Cangut about her recent survey on the positive and negative impacts of the CT field on surgeons’ families. The survey found that the demands of CT surgery as a profession resulted in one in every seven families deciding to have fewer children. Dr. Cangut emphasized the importance of addressing stigmas around pregnancy and parenting in the field to break this pattern, and providing more support through the surgeon’s institution.
Dr. Cangut also touched on the positive aspects of women in CT surgery as role models for their families that were shown in surveys of their adult children. Dr. Cangut is a resident and researcher at Mount Sinai in New York City, United States.
