ISMICS 2025 | Artificial Intelligence and Big Data in Minimally Invasive Surgery
In May 2025, the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery brought together professionals in the field of cardiothoracic surgery to discuss and share knowledge on minimally invasive techniques. Watch for more ISMICS 2025 videos in the coming weeks.
At the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery Annual Scientific Meeting 2025, Dr. Juan A. Crestanello, cardiothoracic surgeon in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Mayo Clinic, delivered a presentation titled “I Can Tell Your Gender From Your ECG: AI and Big Data.”
In his presentation, he discussed predictive artificial intelligence (AI), the long-term outcomes of patients with false positives in AI-based electrocardiograms (ECG), how AI ECGs with low ejection fractions (EF) can predict long-term survival after cardiac surgery, and compared the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) risk model with AI ECG age. Dr. Crestanello also explored the probability of aortic stenosis as assessed by AI ECG, the probability of silent atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with sinus rhythms, and the prediction of postoperative AF based on the AI ECG age gap.
