At the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs (ASAIO) 2024 Annual Conference, Dr. Shaf Keshavjee presented “Ex Vivo and In Vivo Systems to Support, Treat, and Engineer Organs.” In his presentation, he explored the fundamental challenges with the standard approach to organ preservation, the current standard practice in organ selection and management, and gene therapy. He also discussed the development of a stable and reliable ex vivo lung perfusion technique, overnight transplantation and how that may affect medical performance and quality of life, and the future state of organ transplantation.
