To begin, Desmond M. D’Souza from the Division of Thoracic Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center presented on “Single-Port Robotic Lobectomy—Tips and Tricks.” He discussed advantages and challenges of single-port (SP), emphasizing patient selection and proper port placement. He further detailed technical tips regarding camera and instrument positioning, hilar dissection, fissure management, and stapling tricks.
Next, Abbas Abbas, Chairman, Department of Thoracic Surgery, Catholic Health Systems, Long Island, New York, USA, spoke on “Pulmonary Arterial Reconstruction: When and How.” He examined various types of pulmonary arterioplasty, reviewed outcomes from studies on pulmonary artery reconstruction for non-small cell lung cancer, and outlined preoperative assessments for pulmonary arterioplasty. Additionally, he explored advanced bedside instruments, the procedural steps for pulmonary arterioplasty and sleeve resection, and techniques for vascular control.
Finally, Mike Wilson, a cardiothoracic surgeon at Liverpool Hospital in Sydney, Australia, presented “Inspiring the Future: Transformative Techniques for Complex Thoracic Surgery.” He discussed technology and artificial intelligence (AI), reviewed multiple complex cases, and outlined the requirements for complex thoracic surgery. His talk also covered the requirements for surgical planning, procedural imaging, AI-native lung resection scoring, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
