Single Incision VATS (SiVATS) for A 10 cm Mediastinal Teratoma

Thursday, July 10, 2014

A 10 cm anterior mediastinal tumor was diagnosed in a 37-year-old female patient. A single incision VATS (SiVATS) was performed to remove the tumor, which was partly solid and partly cystic in nature. A SiVATS was successfully performed, and the patient was discharged on the second postoperative day. The pathological analysis confirmed that the tumor was a mature teratoma that needed no additional therapy.

SiVATS may find a place in many parts of thoracic surgery where a two or three ports VATS is successfully performed, as the operative and postoperative periods are comfortable for the patient and surgical team.
