S. Modi I, Arishi H, S. Ashrafi A. Step-by-Step Collis Gastroplasty With Nissen Fundoplication: A Thoracic Surgical Technique for Managing Esophageal Shortening. October 2025. doi:10.25373/ctsnet.30418009

This video details a thoracic surgical procedure in which a patient with a history of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) underwent a Collis gastroplasty and Nissen fundoplication. This case highlights the importance of integrating these procedures to accommodate reduced esophageal length.

The video provides an overview of the patient’s medical history, a labeled and dictated surgical guide, and a discussion of the patient’s postoperative outcomes. The surgical video clearly showcases the end of the Collis gastroplasty and the beginning of the Nissen fundoplication. A visual of the patient’s swallow study was added to the discussion of their postoperative outcomes and recovery.

The goal of this video is to showcase a step-by-step guide to this procedure and to highlight its effectiveness in preventing reflux in patients who have previously experienced esophageal shortening. The primary long-term objective is to demonstrate the role of Collis gastroplasty in conjunction with Nissen fundoplication in thoracic surgery.
