The Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society (ECTSS) is one of the oldest and largest organizations of cardiothoracic surgeons in the Mid-Atlantic region. ECTSS's mission is to encourage and stimulate investigation and study that will increase the knowledge of intrathoracic physiology, pathology, and therapy, and to correlate and disseminate such knowledge.

The 56th Annual Meeting of the Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society is designed for cardiothoracic surgeons, physicians, residents, physician assistants, fellows, and other cardiology health care providers. The meeting will take place at the Opal Sands Resort, Clearwater Beach, Florida, on October 17-20, 2018.

This three-day program is the 56th in a series of annual programs offering a realistic view of current clinical topics in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, customary and prevailing, controversial and/or investigational, including basic and clinical research. A faculty of leaders has been invited to share their knowledge and experience with complex new technology cases.

The program is designed to address the following ABMS/IOM competencies: patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning, and system-based practice.

At the conclusion of the 56th Annual Meeting, the participants will be able to:

  • Assess the effectiveness of existing and evolving treatment options
  • Identify key factors in selecting appropriate treatment for patients
  • Discuss the technical challenges in the use of new technologies and techniques
  • Demonstrate improved competency in cardiothoracic techniques
  • Identify the relevant challenges facing the field of cardiothoracic surgery and the possible solutions to those challenges
