The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Cardiac Society and CTSNet will be holding a webinar on the cardiac topic, “The Nature and Frequency of Post Operative Complications Following Cardiac Surgery and Their Impact on Short and Long-Term Patient Outcomes.” The webinar will take place on May 23, 2024, from 12:00–1:00 p.m. EDT (UTC-4). A recording of the webinar will be made available on CTSNet the following week. Registrants unable to attend live will be notified of the recording’s availability, so be sure to register!

Post-operative complications occur frequently following cardiac surgery and have a significant impact on the patient experience and clinical outcomes and costs. This webinar will describe the nature and frequency of complications and their impact on short and long-term outcomes. The presenters will review the key literature in this field, the important role played by quality initiatives involving STS, ERAS Cardiac and other organizations in an effort to reduce the occurrence of post operative complications. Additionally, opportunities to broaden and potentially standardize the analysis and reporting of a range of complications beyond the STS major morbidities driving STAR ratings will be highlighted. Finally, potential future approaches for reducing post operative complications and improving patient outcomes will be reviewed.
